Ali Tareen has announced that he will not be taking part in the PSL franchise auction as the league expands from six to eight teams.

The auction scheduled for January 8 at the Jinnah Convention Centre will have ten bidders competing for the new teams.

In a statement on X, Tareen talked about his long-time association with PSL and the Multan Sultans, he claimed that the connection was because of his commitment to South Punjab.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided not to participate in today’s PSL franchise auction,” he wrote, stating that his time with the Sultans was “about giving a voice to a region that had been overlooked for too long.”

Furthermore, he said, any future return to the PSL would be for the passion of representing South Punjab. He said he plans to enjoy this season from the stands, cheering for the players.

Tareen said he will be willing to participate if and when the Multan Sultan is being sold.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said “Multan Sultans will be operated by the PCB this year. Once the PSL concludes, we will carry out the auction process and put the franchise up for sale. However, for this season, the board will run the Sultans,”

At the end of his statement, Tareen wished best of luck to the bidders, “May the most outspoken owner win!” he concluded.
