The Sindh government has decided to form a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate the murder of Mir Raza Ali on the recommendation of the judicial commission.

According to reports, a committee of provincial ministers met Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and presented its proposals. Inquiries will also be held against the police officers and station house officers (SHOs) named by the judicial commission in its recommendations.

The JIT will be headed by DIG Irfan Baloch and include officials from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other agencies, the reports said.

The government is also expected to prepare a plan to introduce reforms in police investigations in line with the commission’s recommendations. In its report released on Tuesday, the judicial commission concluded that Mir Raza’s death was a murder, not suicide.

The report cited the bullet’s trajectory, the unusual location of the wound, the presence of blood at the place where the body was found, burn marks attributed to acid and the presence of sedative drugs in the blood as factors inconsistent with suicide.

According to the report, police initially declared the death a suicide and continued to maintain that position even after the possibility of murder emerged. The commission said the police theory did not align with the second post-mortem report.
