PESHAWAR: Police have arrested the owner of a private school in Peshawar’s Dir Colony after a roof collapse claimed the lives of at least 30 children and two female teachers. Several other victims remain in critical condition.

The incident triggered a major rescue operation, with teams continuing efforts to respond to the tragedy.

Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) confirmed the arrest, stating that the school was operating under the name of an educational trust. He added that poor construction of the building contributed to the incident.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, praying for strength and patience for those affected.

He also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and directed the relevant authorities to ensure they receive the best possible medical treatment.

The prime minister further instructed officials to expedite rescue and relief operations at the site.
