ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for meaningful political dialogue with the government, saying greater cooperation between the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments is essential to address security and counterterrorism challenges.
In a statement, the party rejected attempts to portray the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister’s position as political obstinacy.
PTI said that facilitating access to Imran Khan would have allowed the chief minister to consult the party chairman directly on security and counterterrorism policy and could have helped bridge differences.
The party stressed that cooperation between the federal government, provincial authorities and other relevant institutions must remain within constitutional limits and respect the role of the elected provincial government and concerns of people affected by the security situation.
PTI also raised concerns over Imran Khan’s health and medical treatment. The party said its negotiating team had sought immediate access to him, his transfer to Shifa International Hospital and the formation of a medical board involving his personal physician.
According to PTI, the government agreed to restore meetings between Imran Khan, his family members and lawyers from Tuesday but did not accept the additional requests concerning his medical assessment and treatment.
The party welcomed the restoration of access but said it could not replace proper medical examination and necessary care.
PTI urged the government to address the issues that led to the deadlock and reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue on Imran Khan’s treatment, democracy, constitutional supremacy, political stability, terrorism and other national challenges.
The party said successful negotiations would require flexibility, mutual trust and a genuine willingness to reach practical solutions.
