The National Cyber Crimes Investigation Authority (NCCIA) has issued a warning regarding “New Year greeting links.”
The authorities have warned the public against being vigilant over the web scam where messages and links offering gifts have been widely circulated during the New Year celebrations.
The NCCIA stressed that these scams result in financial as well as personal data compromise. Mostly, through these links, hackers and scammers got easy access to social apps and bank accounts.
However, NCCIA notified users not to click on links from strangers and share their verification codes on WhatsApp with anyone. Experts said that scammers are spreading greeting cards of New Year through fake applications and links, which will ultimately lead to the hacking of cell phones as well as personal data.
According to experts, clicking on these links may enable hackers to gain access to a user’s personal information, such as photos, contact information, and financial information stored on their mobile phones.
