A man, who allegedly ran over and killed a 15-year-old boy in Multan, has been remanded in police custody for three days by a local court.
The suspect was produced before Judicial Magistrate Saadia Aslam on Tuesday, a day after his arrest. The police sought 14-day physical remand of the suspect, but the court approved only three days for questioning.
Multan City Police Officer Akhtar Farooq told reporters that raids are under way to arrest the second suspect. Describing the death as deeply painful, he said the orphaned boy had been “subjected to barbarity”.
According to the first information report (FIR), the teenager worked for the suspects and was learning electrical work. His cousin told police that the boy had allegedly faced violence and threats from them.
The FIR alleges that the boy was fleeing when the suspects pursued him in a car and struck him. CCTV footage appears to show a car chasing the boy before hitting him, sending him into the gate of a nearby house. He died on impact.
One suspect has been arrested, while the other fled, according to the FIR. Police have seized the vehicle allegedly used in the incident.
A case was registered on behalf of the state at the DHA police station in Multan under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
