KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has said a committee formed by the chief minister has started examining the recommendations of the judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza Ali case.
Lanjar said the committee held its first meeting on Wednesday, during which members were briefed on the judicial commission’s findings. Copies of the report were also distributed among all subcommittee members.
He said police officials would be questioned in accordance with the commission’s recommendations, while those found responsible for negligence and administrative incompetence would be suspended.
The home minister added that a joint investigation team (JIT) would be established on the commission’s recommendation, provided there were no legal impediments.
He said the committee would hold another meeting to determine the next steps regarding the report’s recommendations.
Earlier, the judicial commission examining Mir Raza Ali’s death raised concerns over the police investigation, the handling of medical and digital evidence, and the initial determination that he had died by suicide.
It recommended forming a new JIT to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the case.
