The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a man in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area for allegedly harassing and defaming a woman by circulating AI-generated and digitally manipulated images of her through fake social media accounts.
According to the NCCIA, the suspect is accused of creating fake accounts on Facebook and Instagram and using them to upload and circulate the woman’s photographs.
Initial investigations suggest that the suspect created social media profiles using fictitious identities to share the images, the agency said. He is also accused of using artificial intelligence-generated and digitally manipulated photographs.
The alleged activity was aimed at damaging the woman’s reputation, harassing her and intruding into her private life, according to the NCCIA.
A case has been registered against the suspect under Sections 16, 20 and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016.
The agency said further investigation is under way, including an examination of the possible involvement of other individuals.
