Mai Sabhai: First female folk singer from Bugti tribe shot dead

QUETTA: Renowned folk singer Mai Sabhai Bugti was shot dead in Dera Bugti, Balochistan, police said, while the suspects involved in the killing managed to escape from the scene.

According to police, the incident took place in Dera Bugti, where unidentified assailants opened fire on the folk singer, killing her.

The motive behind the killing has not yet been established, police said, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway and efforts are being made to trace and arrest the suspects.

Mai Sabhai belonged to the Bugti tribe and was known as the first female folk singer from the Bugti community.

Her death has raised concerns over the safety of women involved in cultural and artistic activities in the region.

Police said further investigation would determine the circumstances and motive behind the killing.
