ISLAMABAD: Police investigating the alleged suicide of student Laiba Ejaz have uncovered a suspected job fraud involving nine additional victims,  perpetrated by the prime suspect, Noman, on the pretext of securing government employment.

According to police sources, Noman allegedly collected millions of rupees from several individuals by promising them government jobs and subsequently provided them with fake appointment letters.

The victims were led to believe that they would be appointed to government positions, but the documents provided to them later turned out to be forged, the sources said.

Police sources added that the victims had initially not lodged complaints with the relevant authorities, which meant the alleged fraud cases remained undiscovered. The Federal Police have now traced some of the alleged victims, who are also contacting the authorities.

Investigators are examining information and documents obtained from the victims to establish the extent of the alleged fraud and determine whether other individuals were involved.

Police are also working to establish how many people were allegedly defrauded through false promises of employment and how much money was collected.

Noman is already under investigation in connection with the death of Laiba Ejaz, a gold medalist from the International Islamic University Islamabad.

Laiba's family had alleged that the suspect collected a substantial amount of money by promising to arrange admission, a visa and a scholarship for her higher education in the United States.

The family further alleged that he later provided fake documents.

Police said investigations into Laiba's case and the additional allegations against the suspect were ongoing.

Authorities are working to identify more potential victims and establish the details of the alleged financial fraud.
