PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi criticised the provincial government’s approach to counterterrorism efforts, alleging that its conduct during recent negotiations had undermined the interests of the province and its people.

Naqvi met Governor Kundi at the Governor House in Peshawar, where they discussed the province’s deteriorating security situation, political developments and issues linked to the ongoing long march. The meeting took place after government-opposition talks failed to reach an agreement.

According to an official statement, the two leaders raised concerns over the possibility of terrorists being allowed to pass through security checkpoints during the march.

They accused the provincial government of adopting an irresponsible approach towards counterterrorism operations during the negotiations.

The meeting also alleged that the provincial government had reversed its position after an agreement had reportedly been reached to resolve the issues. The participants described the move as an indication of what they called obstinacy and irresponsibility.

Kundi and Naqvi also discussed the alleged use of helicopters and other government resources by the K-P chief minister and provincial ministers during the long march, claiming it violated Islamabad High Court rulings. Several other matters concerning the province were also discussed.

Later, Kundi said on X that the meeting was attended by K-P Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed and Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah.

He said the security situation remained the central focus, stressing that the safety of the people should be the top priority and that all institutions must work together to combat terrorism.
