JI holds protests across Karachi over multiple issues faced by citizens

The Jamaat-i-Islami held protest at 13 major points in Karachi on Friday, demanding urgent action against fatal accidents caused by heavy vehicles, rising street crime and fatal mishaps from uncovered manholes. 

Protesters carried placards and banners, chanting slogans against “lawlessness, corruption and mismanagement” under the Sindh government, which they claimed has worsened the city’s security and infrastructure situation. 

JI chief Monem Zafar addressed the media at the party headquarters, highlighting that 254 people have lost their lives in road accidents this year in Karachi and around 12,000 got injured. He also highlighted that 25 citizens were shot dead by robbers while 24 people, including children, have lost their lives after falling in open manholes. 

Zafar criticized that Sindh government’s only focus, right now, is on issuing e-challan rather than addressing deeper issues of public safety. He said that the city has been left “hostage to a corrupt system’’ because of PPP’s 17 years of incompetence, corruption and poor governance in Karachi.

The protest locations included Kala Board National Highway, M.A. Jinnah Road, Dawood Chowrangi, Korangi Crossing, Power House Chowrangi, University Road, Dolmen Mall Hyderi, Liaquatabad No.10, Shahrah-e-Orangi No.5, Garden Office, Pracha Chowk Sher Shah and Sohrab Goth Superhighway. 

JI presented clear demands in the protest, which were, protection for citizens from heavy traffic and street crime, protection for the business community from extortion and restoration of city’s infrastructure.
