IG Sindh forms new team to probe Mir Raza Ali murder case

The investigation into the killing of 25-year-old businessman Mir Raza Ali has been handed over to a newly constituted team, while police have added a murder charge to the case registered on his father's complaint.

An order issued by the Sindh inspector general of police's office on Sunday said the investigating team has been reconstituted and that Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), relating to murder, had been added to the FIR.

According to the order, the new team was formed after Ali's second post-mortem report raised questions about the findings of the first examination. The team will investigate FIR No. 795/2026 under Sections 365, 302 and 201 of the PPC.

The FIR was initially registered only under Section 365, which deals with kidnapping. Section 302 relates to murder, while Section 201 concerns causing evidence of an offence to disappear or providing false information to protect an offender.

The five-member team will be headed by Sindh Deputy Inspector General (Crime and Investigation) Amir Farooqui. Its other members are Alfalah SSP Syed Muhammad Ali Raza, Korangi SP (Investigation) Qais Khan, Central SP (Investigation) Anam Tajjamul and Zaman Town Sub-Inspector of Investigation Ch Ghazanfar.

The police order directed the team to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation from all relevant angles. It asked the investigators to identify, collect, preserve and examine any new evidence and analyse all physical, technical, circumstantial and forensic material gathered during the probe.

The team has also been directed to make every effort to solve the case and submit a report to the relevant court within the prescribed period. It may include other police officers in the investigation if required.

The order further directed that progress in the investigation be reported on a daily basis.
