Hina Javed murder case: Punjab forms committee to examine investigation

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has constituted a high-powered committee to review the investigation into the murder of Hina Javed, according to sources.

The committee was formed on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and will be headed by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Director General Sohail Zafar Chattha.

Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shoaib Khurram and Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Saifullah have also been included in the committee, sources said.

The panel will conduct a fresh review of the investigation and is expected to visit Rawalpindi this week under the leadership of Sohail Zafar Chattha. It will visit the crime scene and assess the progress made in the investigation so far.

Rawalpindi police have also received forensic reports related to samples collected during the investigation. The findings include the final post-mortem report, according to sources.

The committee has also contacted Hina Javed’s family to discuss the case and their concerns regarding the investigation.

Hina Javed was allegedly killed at her residence on August 21. Her husband, Faisal Asghar, and domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad are currently being held at Adiala Jail on judicial remand in connection with the case.

The victim’s family has expressed reservations about the investigation conducted by Rawalpindi police. They have also approached the Parliamentary Caucus Committee and the National Commission for Human Rights, seeking attention to their concerns.
