Heads roll over Nipa incident as DC, SSP East removed from posts

District East Deputy Commissioner Ibrar Ahmed Jafrey and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Farukh Raza have been suspended from their posts in the wake of the Nipa incident.

DC East Ibrar Ahmed Jafrey has been directed by the Chief Secretary of Sindh to report to the Services department after the issuance of the notification of his removal.

However, Deputy Commissioner Malir, Sami Ullah Nisar, has been given the additional charge of DC East.

According to reports, SSP East was suspended from his post for spreading misinformation by rewarding the scavenger boy who claimed to have recovered Ibrahim’s body; however, later it was clarified that KMC found the body.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the Chief Secretary of Sindh to take strict action against those found responsible for the death of a three-year-old Ibrahim, who drowned in an open manhole.

Earlier, Murad Ali Shah had suspended high-ranking officers over the tragic Nipa incident on Wednesday.

The suspended officers belonged to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the Town Municipal Corporation (TMC), Gulshan-e-Iqbal, the Water and Sewerage Corporation, the office of the Assistant Commissioner Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and other departments. According to details, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah suspended:

Imran Rajput, Senior Director Municipal Services

Rashid Fayyaz, Assistant Engineer of TMC Gulshan-e-Iqbal

Waqar Ahmed, Executive Engineer, Water and Sewerage Corporation

Amir Ali Shah, Assistant Commissioner, Gulshan-e-Iqbal

Salman Farsi, Mukhtiarkar Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
