KARACHI: A fire broke out in an under-construction building near Bilawal Chowrangi in Karachi on Sunday, spreading from the seventh floor to the 20th floor, according to Sindh Rescue 1122.

Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation Giyan Chand Israni took notice of the incident and directed the relevant teams to remain on high alert.

Rescue 1122 said its fire and rescue team, along with a fire truck and an ambulance, was dispatched to the site immediately after the control room received information about the incident.

The teams reached the scene at 5:42pm and launched firefighting operations. The fire reportedly started in an air-conditioning duct on the building’s seventh floor before spreading to the upper floors, reaching the 20th floor.

Four fire brigade vehicles and a water snorkel were deployed to extinguish the blaze, while rescue personnel continued efforts to bring the situation under control.

Israni said no one was present inside the building as it was still under construction. However, heavy smoke was creating difficulties for firefighters during the operation.

Rescue 1122 teams remained engaged in firefighting efforts, with authorities working to extinguish the fire.
