A doctor was shot dead during a robbery bid near Teen Talwar in Karachi's Clifton area after withdrawing cash from a bank, police said on Monday.

According to the police, the incident occurred within the limits of the Frere police station. The victim was identified as Dr Akash.

The police said that Dr Akash withdrew Rs5 million from a bank and was leaving in his Alto car when armed suspects intercepted him near the bank. The assailants allegedly snatched Rs2.5 million from him before fleeing the scene.

Bank security guards also opened fire on the fleeing suspects, but they managed to escape.

Dr Akash sustained critical gunshot wounds in the attack and was shifted to a nearby private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His body was subsequently moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the DIG South.

According to IGP Sindh spokesperson Syed Saad Ali, the provincial police chief directed authorities to conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation, determine the motive behind the killing and ensure the early arrest of those involved.
