34-year-old man dies mysteriously in housing society security custody

RAWALPINDI: Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 34-year-old employee of a private housing society, who allegedly died after being assaulted and subsequently taken away by the society’s security personnel.

The incident reportedly began when Adnan Yousaf picked up two discarded bottles from a garbage bin in Phase 8 of the housing society, falling within the jurisdiction of Rawat police station.

A case under Section 322 for murder by causation was registered at Rawat police station following a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Shehzad Yousaf.

According to the complaint, Adnan was employed by the housing society and had three children. His wife and children were living in their village, while the family was in Abbottabad when they were informed that Adnan had been taken to the society’s hospital.

Shehzad said the family reached the hospital after receiving the information and met Abdul Aleem, who claimed to be Adnan’s friend and had allegedly been with him shortly before the incident.

Aleem reportedly told the family that he and Adnan had gone to Phase 8 to deliver gas cylinders. While Aleem went to a flat to hand over a cylinder, Adnan stayed outside near the motorcycle.

After returning, Aleem allegedly saw Adnan collecting two bottles from a garbage container. At that point, a man identified as Aqeel Ahmed reportedly objected and contacted the housing society’s security personnel.

The complaint alleged that Ahmed assaulted Adnan in front of the security guards, repeatedly punching him in the face. Adnan reportedly fell to the ground and began bleeding from his nose and mouth.

Aleem said he intervened to stop the assault, after which Ahmed allegedly threatened him and warned him against speaking about the matter.

Security personnel then allegedly placed Adnan inside their vehicle and instructed Aleem and Ahmed to report to the police post. However, when Aleem arrived at a nearby shop around 20 to 25 minutes later, he was reportedly informed that Adnan had been taken to the society’s hospital.

The family was subsequently contacted, while police emergency services were also informed about the incident.

The housing society’s security personnel later gave police a different account, claiming that Adnan had jumped from the moving vehicle while he was being transported to the police post in the presence of supervisor Sajawal Niazi. According to their account, he fell onto the road, sustained injuries and later died.

The deceased was subsequently shifted to District Headquarters Hospital for further examination.

The complaint named Aqeel Ahmed and the housing society’s security personnel among those allegedly responsible for Adnan’s death. Police said the initial examination revealed bleeding from the victim’s nose and mouth, while bruises, marks of alleged violence and abrasions were also observed on his body.

The post-mortem examination has been completed. Police officials said the precise circumstances and cause of death will be determined after the forensic report is received.

Authorities have registered the case under Section 322 and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
