WhatsApp tests Instagram-style status feature in major update

WhatsApp is testing a significant redesign that could make its messaging platform resemble Instagram in how users view status updates.

The proposed update introduces a prominent change to the app’s main interface, where contacts’ status updates would appear at the top of the chat tab, similar to Instagram Stories.

According to reports, the feature is currently being trialled in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android devices.

Despite the change, the existing Updates tab will not be removed. Instead, the new layout is intended to provide quicker access to status updates without leaving the main chat screen.

The feature is being gradually rolled out to beta users, whose feedback will be used to refine the design before a wider release.

If approved, the updated interface is expected to be introduced to all users in the coming months.
