WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new system that will allow users to reserve unique usernames, marking a major step toward integrating Meta’s messaging and social media platforms.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. It suggests that Meta aims to unify its platforms — Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — by allowing users to select the same username across all three services.

Under the new setup, users will be able to access a “Username” option within the profile section of WhatsApp settings. They can either reserve a new username or link one from their existing Meta accounts. Ownership verification will take place through Meta’s Account Center.

Although the feature is not yet available to beta testers, it is expected to roll out gradually, with an official launch anticipated sometime in 2026, according to earlier statements from WhatsApp.
