Meta has introduced the Urdu version of its artificial intelligence platform, Meta AI, enabling users in Pakistan to interact with the system in both Urdu and English.

The launch was announced during the event titled “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation,” organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The company also revealed several new initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation and promoting AI literacy in Pakistan.

As part of these efforts, Meta introduced the local edition of its guide, “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” developed in partnership with Deloitte. The document explains how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance government operations, improve public service delivery, and strengthen data sovereignty.

The guide highlights best practices and success stories from across the Asia-Pacific region, including Pakistan. Meta also announced the launch of an AI Literacy Programme in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp.

Under this initiative, 350 non-computer science university lecturers will receive training in fundamental AI skills to better prepare students for future technological challenges.

In addition, Meta unveiled the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 programme, which aims to support Pakistan’s public institutions through Meta’s technologies, solutions, and global best practices.

The programme will bring together experts from public and private sectors to share insights and strategies for effective digital transformation.

Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the partnership with Meta reflects Pakistan’s commitment to empowering citizens through technology. “Under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, Pakistan is moving towards a future where technology empowers every citizen.

Our collaboration with Meta demonstrates our commitment to advancing AI education, digital transformation, and innovation within government and academia,” she stated.

She added that the inclusion of Urdu in Meta AI marks an important milestone in making technology more inclusive and accessible, ensuring that no one is left behind in Pakistan’s digital journey.

Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, Sarim Aziz, said the company aims to help governments and educational institutions benefit from AI in their digital transformation efforts.

“We are pleased that Meta AI is now available in Urdu, providing local communities new opportunities to connect with technology in their own language,” he said.
