Instagram is testing a new “Read Only” mode that would allow users to browse the platform without leaving a digital footprint, according to a report.
The feature would prevent users from performing basic actions such as liking or commenting on posts, sending messages, following accounts and viewing Stories while the mode is enabled.
The “Read Only” mode is described as being somewhat similar to an incognito mode, allowing users to browse content without interacting with it.
According to the report, the feature appears to be intended for users subscribed to Instagram’s monthly paid service, Instagram Plus.
An Instagram spokesperson confirmed that the company is internally testing the feature and said it is not currently available to users.
The spokesperson added that it was too early to say whether the feature would eventually be launched, noting that Instagram regularly tests new features.
