Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of Karachi’s infrastructure, describing it as unfit for Pakistan’s main economic hub.

In a statement issued during his recent visit to the city, the minister said he was “deeply saddened” by the condition of Karachi’s infrastructure. He noted that during his inspection of the Lyari Expressway, the ongoing work was found to be “unsatisfactory.” As a result, he ordered the immediate suspension of the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) Member South.

Aleem Khan assured the public that the Lyari Expressway would be transformed into a “model infrastructure project,” pledging that Karachi residents would soon witness significant improvements.

The minister also announced that development work on two major motorway projects — the M-6 (Sukkur–Hyderabad) and M-10 (Hyderabad–Karachi Port) — would commence within the current fiscal year. He described these initiatives as “a gift from the federal government to the people of Sindh.”

According to Aleem Khan, the completion of these motorways will directly link Karachi Port with the rest of the country, greatly improving trade, logistics, and regional connectivity.
