Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to Pakistan, stating that the two countries "will always stand by one another".

Speaking at a joint press conference in Istanbul alongside Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Erdoğan welcomed the Prime Minister and his delegation.

He said their discussions covered bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues, expressing satisfaction with the continued progress in ties between the two countries.

President Erdoğan said Türkiye and Pakistan would continue to support each other and stressed that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was of great importance in promoting global peace.

He added that Türkiye would continue to support efforts aimed at peace and prosperity, describing Pakistan’s initiatives for peace, development and economic progress as commendable.

He also noted that the two leaders discussed expanding trade, investment and economic cooperation, adding that the relevant ministries would remain in close contact regarding the development of Special Economic Zones.

Addressing the joint press conference, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Erdoğan for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.

He said the people of Pakistan and Türkiye share a deep and enduring bond, adding that Türkiye has consistently stood by Pakistan during times of war and natural disasters.

The Prime Minister highlighted Türkiye’s assistance to Muzaffargarh and other flood-affected areas, describing it as an important chapter in the history of bilateral relations.

He also expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s support in promoting social and economic development in earthquake-affected regions.

Mr Sharif said he had held a productive meeting with Turkish business leaders at the B2B Forum, while his talks with President Erdoğan were comprehensive and constructive. Discussions focused on increasing investment and trade, particularly in Special Economic Zones, and both sides reaffirmed their commitment to achieving the bilateral trade target of US$5 billion.

The Prime Minister also reiterated Pakistan’s support for Türkiye’s position on the Cyprus issue and thanked President Erdoğan for his consistent support for Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir dispute.
