Khawaja Tareef Gulshan alias Teefi Butt, the key suspect in the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, has been extradited from Dubai to Pakistan, media reports said on Friday.
Teefi Butt, the prime suspect in the high-profile case, appeared before a Dubai court earlier this week. During the hearing, the presiding judge inquired about his willingness to return to Pakistan to face legal proceedings.
Butt reportedly consented to the extradition, following which the Dubai authorities handed him over to a special Punjab police team that had traveled from Lahore to bring him.
“The court asked the accused whether he wanted to return to Pakistan, to which he agreed,” a report said, quoting an official familiar with the case. “After that, the Dubai court formally allowed the handover to Punjab Police.”
The extradition marks a major breakthrough in the case, which has drawn significant public and media attention. The suspect arrived in Lahore under police custody and was expected to be handed over to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) tasked with probing the murder.
Teefi Butt was arrested in Dubai on October 4 with the assistance of Interpol. He had reportedly fled Pakistan after being named the primary suspect in the murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu, a case registered at the Chuhng Police Station in Lahore. Authorities had been tracking his movements for weeks before successfully locating and detaining him abroad.
Meanwhile, another key figure in the case, Aqeel Butt—also known as Gogi Butt and a cousin of Teefi—has surfaced after securing interim bail. Both individuals have been formally accused in the murder investigation.
The Crime Control Department (CCD) has requested to take the lead in the inquiry and has reached out to the Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to assume control of the case. A JIT formed by the Lahore Police is already conducting a detailed investigation into the murder.
With Teefi Butt now back on Pakistani soil, authorities are expected to move swiftly with questioning and further legal proceedings.
