Sukkur landlord drags camel with tractor for damaging crops

In a harrowing incident of animal cruelty, a camel has been transported to Karachi for treatment after allegedly being brutally assaulted by a powerful landlord in the Saleh Pat area of Sukkur district.

According to media reports, the camel received initial treatment locally but was quickly shifted to Karachi due to the severity of its injuries. Officials said that the animal requires specialised veterinary care that was not available in the region.

The incident occurred when the camel reportedly entered an agricultural field in search of water. Enraged by the perceived damage to his crops, the influential landlord allegedly attacked the animal with shocking violence.

The camel's owner claims the landlord tied the animal to a tractor and dragged it across the field, also beating it on the face with sticks. The assault reportedly left the camel with a broken leg and multiple other injuries.

When the owner tried to seek medical help at a nearby veterinary facility, doctors allegedly refused to treat the animal. The case only gained attention after a video of the injured camel surfaced online, sparking public outrage.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and ordered immediate action. Following his directive, local police registered a case on behalf of the camel’s owner.

Police have confirmed that one of the three suspects named in the FIR has been arrested. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining two. Animal rights activists have condemned the attack, calling for strict legal action and better enforcement of animal welfare laws in rural areas.
