The Sindh High Court (SHC) has declared the sealing of machinery belonging to the contractor of the BRT Red Line Lot-II project illegal, while expressing hope that the mass transit project would become operational by October 2027.
According to media reports, a two-member bench of the Sindh High Court announced its verdict in a case filed by the contractor challenging the action against its office and machinery.
In its ruling, the court stated that it expected the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project to be completed and made functional within the stipulated deadline of October 2027.
The court further clarified that construction work on the BRT project should not affect the smooth flow of traffic on University Road under any circumstances.
The judgment noted that Karachi residents were facing severe hardship due to the deteriorating condition of University Road and directed the Sindh government to make the road fully functional within two months.
The court also ordered that there should be no obstruction to public or private transport movement on the road, adding that the provincial government may allocate or reallocate additional funds to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during the construction work.
