With Eid-ul-Fitr around the corner, everyone wants to know the date the festival will fall on as they rush to complete all their preps on time.

The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting that the new moon of Shawwal is likely to be born on April 8, with a high possibility of being sighted on April 9.

If the moon is observed, then people across the country will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on April 10.

The birth of the new moon is expected on April 8 at 11:21pm, the Met office said.

"For the crescent to be sighted, the duration should be more than 19 hours," it added.

The weather department said the sky in most parts of the country would be clear on April 9.

However, the final decision will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after convening a meeting on April 9.

The holy month of Ramazan began in Pakistan on Monday, March 11.
