The death toll from accidents and electrocution caused by last night’s heavy rainfall in Karachi has risen to 11 as weather pundits warned of more intense rain today.

According to reports, water remained accumulated on several major roads, forcing many citizens to abandon their vehicles on the streets and walk home on foot.

The weather experts have warned of more heavy rain in many areas of Sindh particularly Karachi.

In light of the ongoing weather emergency, all private and government schools, colleges, and universities have been closed today.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Mayor Karachi conducted late-night visits to various parts of the city and also convened an emergency meeting, where it was briefed that Karachi had received 245 millimetres of rain within just 12 hours.

However, officials assured that major arteries had largely been cleared and drainage conditions were gradually improving in the city. The Chief Minister directed the DIG Traffic to remove vehicles stranded on the streets.

Yesterday, at least eight people were confirmed dead in rain-related incidents as a heavy downpour lashed Karachi on Tuesday.

The torrential downpour triggered urban flooding, particularly in vulnerable, poorly drained, and densely populated neighbourhoods.

Continuous rain with strong winds stretched into a second day, resulting in feeder tripping and widespread suspension of electricity in several areas.
