In an effort to upgrade the education sector, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has restored the Laptop scheme for students across the province after seven years.

The first woman CM Punjab approved the scheme in a cabinet meeting. Special Assistant to CM, Maryam Aurangzeb, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, Chief Secretary, Secretary of Higher Education , and other officials attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the promotion of higher education, laptops, and transport facilities for students.

CM also announced the motorcycle scheme under which the government will provide at least 20,000 bikes to students across Punjab. 

The meeting attendees showed consensus over building more universities and colleges in the urban districts of the province to make education accessible for all students.

CM Maryam said it is the goal of her government to build universities with international standards.

She also welcomed Premier Shehbaz Sharif's decision to declare an ‘Education Emergency’ across the country and expressed the need for revamping the education system.

Meanwhile, in a detailed meeting, she was briefed that more than 650,000 students have been studying in private and public universities in Punjab, of which 44 percent are males and 65 percent are female.
