Prince Rahim vows continued partnership with Pakistan

Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday. He said he will keep working with Pakistan on human development projects.

The breakfast meeting marked Prince Rahim’s first official visit to Pakistan since he was named the 50th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community following the death of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, last year.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif talked about the things the Aga Khan Development Network has done in Pakistan. They have helped with healthcare, education and making sure people can deal with climate change. They have also helped with renewable energy, teaching digital skills and developing rural areas.

The prime minister said the Aga Khan Development Network has done a lot of work in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. He said they have helped people in vulnerable communities. He wants the Aga Khan Development Network to work with Pakistan more. He also said that the Aga Khan University has helped make healthcare and education better, in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister Office said Prime Minister Shehbaz described AKDN as a trusted partner in Pakistan’s efforts to address climate challenges, particularly in glacially vulnerable northern regions.

Prince Rahim thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and expressed his desire to continue collaboration with Pakistan on development and humanitarian initiatives.

The prime minister also presented a commemorative stamp issued by Pakistan Post in honour of the late Aga Khan IV and paid tribute to his decades-long humanitarian service and close ties with Pakistan.
