Iqbal will oversee the affairs of the power and petroleum divisions of the Ministry of Energy, the notification said.
He has already been overseeing the two divisions as head of the National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC), a forum established in April to coordinate energy-related matters following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz after US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.
The NCMC oversees the import of crude oil, petroleum products, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as the export of petroleum products, including furnace oil. It is also responsible for setting priorities for power generation.
The Power Division and Petroleum Division are currently headed by Federal Ministers Sardar Awais Khan Leghari and Ali Pervaiz Malik, respectively.
