The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has imposed a ban on media coverage of crime scenes, recovered articles and interviews of suspects while in custody.

The Pemra directed all satellite TV channel license holders to "refrain from airing any crime scene footage, including CCTV videos depicting suspects or accused individuals, as such broadcasts may interfere with ongoing police investigation."

"The Sindh Police has once again approached PEMRA with the request to direct TV channels to refrain from broadcasting of any crime scene CCTV footage, recovered crime articles, or custodial interviews of accused persons during the pendency of investigation or trial," read the notification.

"All satellite TV channels licensees are hereby once again directed to ensure compliance with the aforementioned directives in letter and spirit," the regular said.

"It is imperative that all Programme Managers, News Editors, Non-Linear Editors (NLEs) and Graphic Designers may be sensitized on this important matter."

The Pemra warned that in case of non-compliance, legal action under Section 27, 29-A, 30 and 33 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act, 2023 shall be initiated.
