Senator Faisal Vawda said developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are the beginning of a series of steps, adding that more developments could follow as he backed the imposition of an emergency in the province.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Vawda said the decision to impose an emergency in KP was in the public interest, citing the province’s deteriorating law and order situation.

“The process has started from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Part one has arrived; parts two and three will follow,” he said, adding that further developments were possible.

Vawda claimed that the people of KP would receive relief within 180 days and that results would begin to emerge within 60 days. He said the government would focus on performance and addressing public concerns rather than political slogans.

He also said the government was committed to eliminating terrorism, adding that the fight against it could not be concluded within minutes or days.

The senator claimed that terrorism had increased by 195% and questioned who was responsible for the situation. He also criticised the performance of the provincial government over the past 13 years, attributing the province’s difficulties to its governance.

Vawda alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had links with terrorists and criticised those who, he said, disrespected the national flag and anthem. He did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegations during the press conference.

He further claimed that eight members of the KP cabinet had been in contact with him, adding that some people would remain while others would leave. He expressed hope that the KP governor would perform effectively, saying another person could take over if the expected results were not delivered.
