Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is set to expire on 22 April, while Pakistan is awaiting Iran’s response regarding participation in peace talks.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Tarar said Pakistan, acting as a mediator, remains in contact with Iran in an effort to reduce regional tensions and bring it to the negotiating table.

He noted that the ceasefire will end at 4:50am on 22 April, prompting an intensification of diplomatic efforts.

Tarar added that Pakistan is striving to persuade Iran to join peace negotiations in order to pave the way for lasting stability in the region.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has urged both the United States and Iran to consider extending the temporary ceasefire and allow diplomacy to take its course.

US Chargé d’Affaires in Pakistan Natalie Baker met with Ishaq Dar on Tuesday, where the two sides held detailed discussions on the evolving regional situation.

During the meeting, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s position that all disputes can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, which remain the only guarantees for lasting peace and stability.

He also stressed the need for direct communication between the United States and Iran, urging both sides to consider extending the ceasefire and take serious steps to de-escalate tensions.

On the occasion, the US diplomat appreciated Pakistan’s positive and constructive role in promoting peace and facilitating negotiations in the region.
