According to a report published by the UN, intelligence agencies in Pakistan have arrested the spokesperson of Daesh-Khorasan, Sultan Aziz Azam.

The UN report states that Sultan Aziz was detained on May 16, 2025, at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border the security forces of Pakistan. He was the leader of Al-Azaim Foundation, a platform used for recruitment and propaganda activities.

Azam’s arrest halted Daesh-K’s media operations, according to the UN report, it was also followed by the closure of Voice of Khorasan supposedly impacting its propaganda network.

According to the UN, the arrest of Azam has weakened IS-K’s organisational structure globally, hampering its several planned attacks. The report also noted that the arrest of senior leader Abu Yasir al-Turki, alongside Azam, has harmed the group’s operational capabilities.

While Daesh-K remains active, the developments published by the 16th UN report reflects broader counterterrorism efforts and pressure on extremist networks in South and Central Asia amid ongoing security challenges.
