Pakistan Navy traces black box of crashed cargo aircraft at 3,200-metre depth

The Pakistan Navy has traced the black box of a K2 Airways cargo aircraft that crashed in the Arabian Sea. The precise location of the black box was identified during a complex, two-month search operation conducted at a depth of approximately 3,200 metres beneath the sea.

On July 7 this year, K2 Airways Flight 1732, a Boeing 737 cargo aircraft travelling from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Karachi, crashed into the Arabian Sea.

Prior to the crash, the aircraft crew reported a malfunction in the navigation system approximately 155 nautical miles from Karachi. In the crew's final communication, they reported that the aircraft was "turning or drifting."

According to subsequent radar data, the aircraft's altitude underwent sudden and unusual changes. The aircraft initially descended rapidly, then climbed abruptly before disappearing from radar while descending at a rate of approximately 22,000 feet per minute.

All five crew members on board were feared dead as a result of the crash.

Shortly after the incident, the Pakistan Navy launched a search operation both on the surface and at depth, approximately 53 nautical miles south of Ormara, a coastal town in Balochistan.

Using advanced equipment developed in Pakistan by the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), Pakistan Navy vessels located the aircraft wreckage and black box at extreme depth.

According to Pakistan Navy officials, all key technical information regarding the location of the black box has been handed over to the Bureau of Air Safety Investigation.

The information will assist investigators in scientifically determining the actual and final causes of the aircraft crash.
