Pakistan has strongly condemned the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in international waters. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they demand the release of all humanitarian activists who were detained including Pakistani citizen Saad Edhi.

The Foreign Office said it condemned “in the strongest possible terms” what it described as the unlawful interception, detention, and reported mistreatment of humanitarian workers aboard the aid mission, and called for their immediate release.

Saad Edhi, grandson of renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, was reportedly among dozens of activists detained when Israeli forces intercepted vessels from the flotilla in the eastern Mediterranean, organizers said.

The flotilla was carrying aid for Gaza and had participants from many countries. Organizers said several vessels were stopped while trying to reach Gaza, which still faces a blockade and shortages of supplies. The Foreign Office added that Pakistan is in contact with its missions in the region. They are working to ensure the safety and return of its nationals without delay. The Foreign Office urged the community to protect humanitarian workers.

Earlier reports said many boats were intercepted, drawing criticism from countries and rights groups. The flotilla’s attempt to reach Gaza triggered renewed diplomatic concern over restrictions on aid deliveries.
