The Pakistan Army has successfully test-fired the Fatah-2 Extended Range (ER) hypersonic ballistic missile, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.
In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the weapon system was capable of engaging targets with high precision and defeating enemy missile defence systems due to its “unique trajectory and manoeuvrability features”.
“Fatah-2 ER, with its extended range, will further enhance the Army’s reach and capability of engaging deep targets,” the statement said.
The launch was witnessed by Commander Army Rocket Force Command, senior Pakistan Army officers, and scientists and engineers involved in the project.
The commander appreciated the “dedication and technical prowess” of the scientists and engineers, ISPR said.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the chief of army staff and chief of defence forces, and the services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on the successful test launch of the extended-range version of the Fatah-2 weapon system, according to the statement.
