The armed forces of Pakistan and Kazakhstan have kicked off a joint military exercise, Dostarym-V, focused on counter-terrorism operations.

The two-week-long drill from October 13 to 24, 2025 is being held at the Special Operations School in Cherat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Elite units from both countries—the Special Services Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army and the Kazakhstan Army’s Special Forces—are taking part in the training. The objective is to bolster tactical coordination, exchange battlefield experience, and deepen long-standing defence ties between the two nations.

The opening ceremony for the exercise was held on October 14, with senior military officials from both sides in attendance. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen military-to-military cooperation and develop joint strategies to combat terrorism in complex operational environments.

"This exercise represents more than just military training—it’s a symbol of growing trust and shared commitment to regional peace,” said a statement.

Pakistan continues to engage in regular bilateral and multilateral military exercises across Asia, the Middle East, and other regions. These drills are aimed at enhancing operational preparedness, fostering interoperability, and promoting security partnerships.

Earlier this year, in April, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Kazakhstan, where he held strategic talks with Kazakh Defence Minister Colonel General Ruslan. Their discussions centered around regional security challenges and exploring avenues for stronger defence collaboration.

The Dostarym-V exercise is the latest reflection of that growing partnership, as both countries work together to confront evolving security threats through joint action and mutual support.
