Pakistan, India exchange lists of nuclear installations

Pakistan and India on January 1 exchanged lists of their nuclear installations under a bilateral agreement.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed the development during a weekly press briefing in Islamabad. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said that the two countries also exchanged lists of prisoners held in each other’s custody.

He said that Pakistan handed over the lists to the Indian High Commissioner. He added that the exchange of lists of nuclear installations and prisoners takes place twice a year in accordance with established diplomatic practice between the two countries.

During the briefing, Andrabi also outlined Pakistan’s position on several regional and international issues. He said Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Yemen and opposed any unilateral actions by any Yemeni party.

He added that Pakistan stood in solidarity with Saudi Arabia on the Yemen issue and reiterated its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, while supporting a diplomatic solution to the conflict. He expressed hope that the Yemeni people and regional stakeholders would work together towards a lasting resolution.

The spokesperson further said that National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq attended the funeral prayers of former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia, where he met her son to offer condolences.

He said that Pakistan rejected Israel’s reported recognition of Somaliland and reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had issued a joint statement with foreign ministers of several countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemning Somaliland.
