The National Assembly has approved the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), passing the resolution by a majority vote.
The House approved a motion to suspend question hour by a majority vote to take up the proclamation of emergency issued by President Asif Ali Zardari on October 11, 2026.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhry laid before the House the presidential proclamation issued under Article 232 of the Constitution concerning the imposition of emergency in KP.
A motion seeking parliamentary endorsement of the emergency was subsequently tabled, while Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar opened the debate.
On the occasion, opposition members opposed the imposition of the emergency in KP and chanted slogans in protest.
Government and opposition lawmakers debated the resolution for more than four hours. Subsequently, the National Assembly session was adjourned until 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that the party had challenged the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in the Peshawar High Court.
Barrister Gohar said the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency ended the democratically elected provincial government.
He expressed hope that the court would restore the democratic government in the province.
