ISLAMABAD: NADRA has clarified that pension payments will not be suspended simply because a pensioner did not obtain a proof-of-life certificate in September.

The clarification follows concerns among retired employees over whether failing to secure the certificate through NADRA could result in their pensions being withheld. NADRA has been coordinating with relevant institutions to facilitate the issuance of these certificates.

Speaking in a podcast, NADRA Public Information Officer Syed Shabahat Ali said the absence of a proof-of-life certificate issued by NADRA would not, on its own, be grounds for stopping pension payments.

He explained that the federal government has already decided that pensions should not be suspended solely due to a pensioner not obtaining the certificate from NADRA. The policy covers retired employees from a range of institutions.

The official said the decision also applies to former military and armed forces personnel, as well as retirees of federal and provincial government departments.

Pensioners belonging to institutions that have not yet contacted NADRA for the certificate service will also not have their payments stopped on this basis.

The clarification is intended to ease concerns among pensioners, particularly elderly retirees, and confirm that not having a NADRA proof-of-life certificate does not automatically affect their pension payments.
