Law minister hints at imposition of emergency in KP

 Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that an emergency could be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the constitutional requirements for such a measure are fulfilled.

Speaking to Geo News, Tarar said the Constitution was clear about the procedure and requirements for imposing an emergency.

When asked about reports regarding the possible imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and whether any mechanism was under consideration, the law minister said that if the situation warranted action under the Constitution, an emergency should be imposed and would be imposed.

“If the requirements laid down in the Constitution are fulfilled, then all such measures will be taken,” Tarar said.

He reiterated that the Constitution clearly defines the mechanism for such action, adding that any steps would be taken when the constitutional provisions required them.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi while talking to the media in Peshawar on September 25 disclosed that consultations were held over the possibility of governor’s rule in the province ahead of PTI’s protest march, which was scheduled for September 27 but was later postponed to October 4.
