Police and Rangers in Karachi have launched raids to arrest extortionists after traders received threats, while a firing incident at a showroom on New MA Jinnah Road further alarmed authorities. The culprits behind the extortion attempts are demanding huge sums of money through phone messages.

Recently, armed men opened fire at a showroom on New MA Jinnah Road, after which the owners received a threatening message from extortionists warning them: “This is a trailer. If you don’t pay Rs5 million by 7pm, the full film will start.”

The suspects are reportedly avoiding social media apps and are instead contacting victims directly through mobile numbers. Law enforcement authorities have launched raids across the city to trace those behind the ongoing campaign to intimidate businessmen.

A food centre in Malir also received an extortion message demanding Rs2 million, while a trader in Manghopir was sent a similar message seeking Rs100 million. Police are investigating the cases as more complaints emerge about threats being faced by traders in the metropolis.

A suspect named Ahmed Ali Magsi is said to be leading the recent extortion activities in Karachi. The extortionists reportedly call from both local and international numbers.

Meanwhile, Rangers recently detained a man identified as Qasim alias Qaso from Malir during a raid after previous complaints linked him to extortion. He is currently being investigated by the Special Investigation Unit.
