A teacher at COMSATS University in Lahore has come under criticism after allegedly insulting a student for not bringing a laptop to class, and then directing offensive remarks at the student’s family.

According to reports, the teacher named Dr Tayyab Chaudhary not only reprimanded the student for being without a laptop but went as far as to insult the student's father in front of the entire class.

He then allegedly forced the student to call his elder brother during the lecture and told him to arrange a laptop through ‘zakat’.

The incident occurred on June 19 and was reportedly recorded on a student’s phone.

Following the humiliation of their classmate, several students approached faculty members and the head of department to report the teacher’s behavior. However, their concerns were allegedly dismissed with excuses.

“They said it wasn’t something to make a big deal about, and that the teacher might have been under stress, which could explain his behavior,” read a post by a university student on Instagram.

Instead of offering an apology, Dr Tayyab Chaudhary was accused of retaliating by lowering the grades of the entire class for complaining against him.

Several students have since expressed outrage, stating that the teacher has shown similarly inappropriate behavior in the past, but no action has been taken by the university administration.
