The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has issued a list of 715 buildings declared dangerous and dilapidated across the province.

According to details, the list was finalised by the SBCA’s technical committee for dangerous buildings.

The SBCA said that the process of evacuating residents from dangerous structures and carrying out demolitions is underway in phases on the directives of Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

Several unsafe buildings in Karachi have already been demolished, while others are being razed.

Of the total 715 buildings identified as dangerous, 563 are located in Karachi, 81 in Hyderabad, 60 in Sukkur, seven in Mirpurkhas and four in the Larkana region.

Within Karachi, District South has the highest number of unsafe buildings at 422. Other districts include Central with 72 buildings, Keamari 28, Korangi 18, East 16 and Malir five.

The SBCA said that in the second phase of the campaign, warning banners will be installed on dangerous buildings and public announcements will be made through loudspeakers to alert residents.

The authority said the campaign has been launched to raise public awareness and warn occupants about the risks posed by unsafe structures.

The SBCA has urged citizens, on humanitarian grounds, to inform the authority about any dilapidated, dangerous or illegal buildings in densely populated areas so that timely action can be taken.
