Karachi is expected to receive moderate rainfall today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a province-wide rain forecast for Sindh, including Karachi for Friday, predicting moderate showers starting today.

According to PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham, this will mark the third spell of monsoon rains and is expected to bring moderate rainfall to Karachi.

Zaigham further noted that “a stronger weather system is forming over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring heavier rains to Karachi and other parts of Sindh in the coming days.”

Under the influence of the current monsoon system, rain accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers is expected at several locations across Sindh, including Ghotki, Sukkur, Sanghar, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Mirpur Khas, Matiari, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, and Jacobabad.

The PMD also stated that rains will begin from Dadu today, spreading to other districts by evening and night.

Meanwhile, the monsoon continues to batter other parts of the country as South Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to receive more rainfall in the coming days.

In Punjab, the heavy rains have already caused devastation. Over the past 24 hours, at least 55 people lost their lives in various rain-related accidents. 

Chakwal recorded 450 mm of rain, while Rawalpindi and Islamabad received 240 mm, leading to overflowing rivers and canals, flooding in low-lying areas, and water entering homes.

Authorities have urged citizens to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecasted weather conditions, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
