Jibran Nasir accuses police of shielding 'killers' in Mir Raza case

KARACHI: Jibran Nasir, counsel for the family of Mir Raza, has said that the family has so far made no allegations against the police before the commission, but questioned why the alleged killers were still being shielded.

Speaking to the media at the Sindh High Court, Nasir said, “The family has not levelled any allegation against the police in anything that has come before the commission so far. The killers are still being protected to this day.”

He added that Dr Osama appeared to be “the best officer” working on the case in Karachi.

Nasir said that the statements of the case’s investigating officer, Siraj Lashari, and CPL officer Kashif were scheduled to be recorded before the commission, while questionnaires were also to be sent to senior police officers.

He said the commission had informed the Chief Justice on September 2 that it had requested an extension of its term.

Statements of several new individuals, whose names had not emerged during the initial investigation, had also been recorded, he added.

According to Nasir, the commission had been informed that Sindh Chief Minister had approved the summary seeking an extension. However, the provincial cabinet is scheduled to meet on October 1 to decide on the extension.

He questioned why the extension could not have been approved in a single day, as the commission itself had been constituted within a day.
