The Iranian delegation departed following the conclusion of talks with the United States in Islamabad.

The delegation was seen off by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Iran and the US failed to come up with an agreement in their talks after several hours of discussions in Islamabad due to the fact that Iran was unwilling to accept the conditions set by the Americans after the discussion which lasted for twenty-one hours, Vice President JD Vance said.

"It's unfortunate we've been unable to conclude an agreement and I think it's unfortunate for Iran a little bit more than it's unfortunate for the United States of America," said Vice President JD Vance, head of the American delegation, speaking to reporters just prior to his departure from Islamabad after the highest level of talks between the US and Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Vance pointed out that Iran did not want to accept "our terms." The US, according to him, must be convinced of "fundamental commitment" on the part of Iran about not acquiring a nuclear weapon.

"We need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon," Vance noted.
